Jesus has given elders (or pastors) to lead, feed and protect the church according to the Scriptures. These men are recognized in our church as elders:
Rick Carman grew up in Wise County, coming to place his faith in Christ as his Lord and Savior after realizing that there is more to being Christian than striving to be morally good and attending church. After graduating from Paradise High School, Rick attended Oklahoma Baptist University. Upon graduation, Rick spent two years in the Middle-East using basketball as a platform for sharing Christ. Rick returned to Texas to coach & teach for three years in the Dallas area. He attended the Young Guns discipleship program at Denton Bible Church in 2004-05 and served as an intern to Small Groups Ministry while beginning his studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. Rick completed his Th.M. degree in Biblical Exegesis and Historical Theology while serving as Senior Pastor of Cross Timbers Bible Church in Weatherford, TX. Rick became the Senior Pastor of Decatur Bible Church in September, 2013. He is married to Niki, and together they have three children: Caleb, Kerith, and Kelaiah. Rick enjoys quiet days with his family, reading, watching football and basketball, and spending time with members of the church family over the Scriptures with a good cup of coffee.
J.R. was blessed to be adopted into a Christian home and reared in a Southern Baptist church in Commerce, Texas. God snatched his heart and life as a senior in high school in1973. He was “radically saved” and has never been the same since. After becoming members of Denton Bible Church in the late 90’s, J.R. and his wife Eve grew quickly under the teaching of Pastor Tom Nelson. They both longed for the same kind of fellowship in the county where they lived and began praying for God to bring a bible church to Wise County. After many years of prayer and “life”, in April 2010, Decatur Bible Church was formed. J.R. was given the unexpected privilege of serving as an Elder at Decatur Bible Church and considers it a wonderful privilege. It is his desire to serve this congregation with all his heart and ability and represent DBC honorably in his everyday walk as a submissive servant of the Lord and be a blessing to others. J.R. and Eve have 4 grown children, 1 teenage daughter still at home and 4 grandchildren. J.R. is retired from law enforcement and the US Navy Reserve.
Andy was born in Ft. Worth. After finishing 6th grade, he moved with his parents to Mexico. He served with them as missionaries to a remote tribe of Native Americans, the Tarahumara. Though he was saved in Vacation Bible School as a child, these years helped form a strong Faith in God’s love and provision. There, he felt called to Medicine. He moved to Azle for his Sr year in high school. Then he went to Texas Tech for University, and Medical School. Andy married the girl of his dreams in Amarillo, where he stayed for Residency in Family Practice. He has 2 beautiful daughters who also love the LORD. He has been a servant at Decatur Bible Church since 2011. One of his greatest honors was to be chosen as an elder, and ordained with J.R., by pastor Mel Summerall and pastors from Denton Bible Church. It will be beatiful to see how God grows Decatur Bible in the coming years. It’s Foundation is sure, its course steady. God’s Glory is revealed through the Love of His Church to an ever darkening world. Even so Lord Jesus come.
Deacons are servants that oversee specific areas of practical service to the church body. Decatur Bible Church appoints deacons in order to manage areas of physical need or oversight that require a significant amount of time in order to be taken care of in a manner that helps the elders focus on their ministry as shepherds to the church.
